a penchant for out-of-tune stuff

mar 24. reasons
was once asked for a reason for liking music so much. it's another je ne sais quoi thing. but i guess music takes no sides, and interpretation is up for grabs. so i guess that's it.
-------

feb 9. the end has a start
you know what. i am still riding on the highs from the "phew, thank god 2008 is over" effect; not that it was particularly bad, or that the year ahead would be like wowow, but i've got this 'back to basics' eureka lalala in my head and it's a good notion, albeit a strange one
-------

oct 1. the start
hopefully i'll update this stuff regularly though no one would read this;
we should spread good and sometimes obscure music around, but then again obscure loses its charm when it ain't obscure no more.

ok i was just talking sh*tt to fill up the space.

The Poetics of Sound
28.6.09
// 091 fame, frivolous, forgotten.

(corbis // jim frazier, pay it forward reworked on ps3)

I’ve written about twenty fragments of
rather incongruent thoughts relating to
Michael Jackson’s iconic but tormented life,
but by now all the tributes and odes and
pseudo-psychoanalyses
have been said and done,
so it wouldn’t make sense,
to do the same.

Anyways, I heard the news
over the radio on the 26th,
whilst on the way to the daily grind.
Shortly after, whether deliberate or
by sheer coincidence,
Nickelback’s “if today was your last day”
was played on air.

The combination of song and event was
yet another signpost, reiterating the
fact that life is fleeting; (and being
paranoid people, we might retaliate
by living our lives frivolously,
but lets not digress here.)
More importantly, a signpost
that makes us ask ourselves
if we had and will do anything that
truly aids society, in the short period
of time that we spend on earth.

I can say, with certainty, that mj did.
Hopefully we could leave the world
saying the same of ourselves.

// if today was your last day

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less travelled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

-- one day; hopefully some day soon.

* finally finished penning this on the 4th of july

// 089 off tangent.

was going to write about
the big debate between fate vs choice,
(which almost always gets ugly),
but the internet is a cesspool of dangling
carrots (distractions) so this post is now about :

// taylor swift rapping with t-pain

i'm so gangsta you can find me baking cookies at night
you out clubbing, but I just make caramel delight
t swift and t pain rappin on the same track
it's a thug story tell me can you handle that

hell shit funny. (& t-swift is hottt.)

but anyhow, we make choices and
choose how we deal with the consequences,
and that shapes us and changes our fate.
so i'd pick choice over fate.

doesn't mean you have to.

// 086 high road

since our dear nation promotes citizen journalism
here's my contribution.

IT show citing.
silly hyper girl runs after runaway car and the next thing
we know...silly girl falls, and her new "shock proof" notebook
flies.......a mile?

ok so i was exaggerating.
let's get the facts straight.

runaway car was traveling at 2km per hour.
silly girl could have used a mobile to call runaway driver.
and...the notebook definitely got a shock.

snarky humour aside, it is funny how sometimes we need
to fall flat real badly and let the wheels (pun intended)
come off, before we put new ones on and set them in motion
ah yes...philosophical redemption. lmao.

// high road. fort minor

// 085 *the great divide between head & heart

Rediscovered *the scientist (coldplay) whilst listening to the
faith yang cover version off her new record.

Never really looked at coldplay’s lyrics,
though I see the band’s early sound as being
generally melancholic and slightly depressing.
(glad that their current sound is strangely uplifting;
gives hope to us mere mortals in search of
the balance between happy and melancholy)

Never knew what I missed.

“I was just guessing at numbers and figures
pulling the puzzles apart
questions of science, science and progress
do not speak as loud as my heart”

plenty of interpretations on this song, but yeah,
I think it’s about an innately rational being
trying to make the right rational decisions,
but sometimes it isn’t so easy when
emotions come into play.

Conversely, it’s about that innately rational being
who respects and accepts another person’s decisions,
but of course, not without a sigh or two.

what if it hurts?
what do i do?
what do you say?
don't throw your lifelines away.

a-ha - lifelines.
(once more coz the song is too amazing)

because when you let go
of all those stupid principles
and metal fences you build around yourself,

you see that the lifelines were always
there for you to grab when you needed them.
