a penchant for out-of-tune stuff

mar 24. reasons
was once asked for a reason for liking music so much. it's another je ne sais quoi thing. but i guess music takes no sides, and interpretation is up for grabs. so i guess that's it.
-------

feb 9. the end has a start
you know what. i am still riding on the highs from the "phew, thank god 2008 is over" effect; not that it was particularly bad, or that the year ahead would be like wowow, but i've got this 'back to basics' eureka lalala in my head and it's a good notion, albeit a strange one
-------

oct 1. the start
hopefully i'll update this stuff regularly though no one would read this;
we should spread good and sometimes obscure music around, but then again obscure loses its charm when it ain't obscure no more.

ok i was just talking sh*tt to fill up the space.

// 020 play that funky music...whiteboy.

so yeah the radio is my souljuice
for getting through mundane afternoons.
now they're pooling for 9 song playlists
so i've been thinking of the hypothetical nine
i'd like heard.

1. fastlane - esthero.
"this is so tortuous, i know that i shouldn't,
but i cannot resist"

a song about the pangs and notions of love,
it has this lingering effect on the individual.
raw/honest/intimate. don't know how else to describe it.

2. say what u want - texas.

can't get enough of the tune esp the first bit.
it just puts people(me) in their(my) happy place.
and it's borderline obsession painted in a sweet way?

3. irreplaceable - beyonce.

current and catchy (til it gets overplayed)
probably will scrap this for nat imbruglia's torn
when the tune wears itself out...
though that would mean a more 'depressed' playlist

4. ode to my family - the cranberries.
"Do you know this, do you know
You did not find me, you did not find
Does anyone care"

makes you want to be a kid in ignorance again...
(maybe 13 for late bloomers like me)

5. all good things - nelly furtado.
"flames to dust, lovers to friends,
...all good things come to an end"

ima sucker for melancholy.(and nelly furtado)
such a visual paradox. - a surreal being singing about reality.
hmm.

6. runaway train - soul asylum.

"Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than dealing with the pain"

a somewhat random pick. this one's
for smelly cat. and coz the live band did not sing it
a couple of saturdays back.

7. precious - depeche mode.
"Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give"

this one isn't particularly catchy,
doesn't tug at ur heartstrings too much,
but the lyrics ring so true.
makes u want to nod to the song, and in agreement?

8. kylie minogue - confide in me.
"Stick or twist the choice is yours
Hit or miss what's mine is yours"

a tribute to kylie's homecoming...
and my second home.
you gotta love kylie for being the entertainer she is.

9. beautiful day - u2.
"it's a beautiful day, don't let it get away"

ditch work and paint the town red...
very good for monday blues.

// playlist on youtube here
just a bunch of reflective / happy songs that make u drift away.
though i'd pick very different songs (think garbage/placebo)
for an afternoon with the now *deceased ione (the ipod)

*yes its dead. yes they're replacing it.(woohoo!)
no it's not going to be black (damn!)

16.11.06
// 019 video killed the radio star?

PartI

so this is about the big music spitting machine
we call the ipod though mine's named
ione(v2) (after ione skye though i know
nothing about the person. the name's just somewhat
surreal. or whateverr.)

main point here...ipod updaters from itunes7 killed
ione. well kinda, it just doesn't recognise computers now.
maybe screaming at itunes a little longer might help?

i think the radio killed my video star.

unfortunately, we aesthetically charged morons
love our ipods and iones unconditionally
despite it's apparant shortcomings.

10.11.06
// 018 esthero

"Can't move on... but I can't go home
and I'm not so strong... but I'll make my way
to the place I know
inside my heart
where I used to go to get brave
and I don't want to be lost anymore."

i drive alone -

"battling, battling, these feelings are traveling
Quicker than a flick of lightning, you were tightening
Round my heart and won't slow down
Burning hotter than the world underground
I'm feeling like cupid's fool, what to do?
And the arrow's headed straight for you you
I don't wanna love another, gotta keep this undercover
Brother I'm about to explode, I am…

Strong as an earthquake, bright as a shinin' star
I remember the fragrance, I just couldn't believe I'd come so far for
Love in the fast lane, as my sanity quickly passed me by
Yeah I left it all behind"

fastlane .

this girl's got soul n trip shi**.

// 017 caught the 80s bug yet?

so thanks to marilyn (91.3fm)
and one reflective monday,

ive become a total 80s convert.
simple and raw music is hard to pass up.
as well as idealistic notions,
and we all think we are 5 yr olds once more.

Melting the ice for me
Jump into the ocean
Hold back the tide I see
Your love in motion

erasure. always.

ok so i don't exactly dig the lyrics and
mtv - angmohs pretending to be ancient chinese
people doing some sorta kung fu.

but the song is damn good.

// erasure's always on youtube
// erasure has a myspace

5.11.06
// 016 murder sings the blues

= csi ny's latest episode (season 3 epi 07)
made cool with black violin's
classical violin vs hip hop mish mash

definately definately watch it.
the full episode on the cbs site.

// watch episodes @ innertube

and classical music on crack is the way to go.
the vocal songs i'm not so fond of, but the brandenburg one
and key marcus freestyle...woah.

pity they didn't post the song featured on csi ny.

// download black violin songs @ myspace

3.11.06
// 015 what a difference 20 years makes.

so i just discovered that these clips
we rip off youtube to put on our ipods
can be played as audio files.

so now we have the option of swooning
because of the singer;
or swooning because of the singer's voice.

now this song kicks arse in acoustic mode.

// nelly furtado - promiscuous acoustic on sunrise

and damnit i miss watching sunrise in aus,
which was ironically bedtime.
don't miss the screwed up bio clock though.

and twenty years back we get the answer to
the reason why ipod video wasn't invented back then.
fab song though.

// when in rome - the promise on youtube

the romantic era gives way to grab and go.
