a penchant for out-of-tune stuff

mar 24. reasons
was once asked for a reason for liking music so much. it's another je ne sais quoi thing. but i guess music takes no sides, and interpretation is up for grabs. so i guess that's it.
-------

feb 9. the end has a start
you know what. i am still riding on the highs from the "phew, thank god 2008 is over" effect; not that it was particularly bad, or that the year ahead would be like wowow, but i've got this 'back to basics' eureka lalala in my head and it's a good notion, albeit a strange one
-------

oct 1. the start
hopefully i'll update this stuff regularly though no one would read this;
we should spread good and sometimes obscure music around, but then again obscure loses its charm when it ain't obscure no more.

ok i was just talking sh*tt to fill up the space.

// 003 'cause soulmates never die

apparantly i've been listening to
the sorta chilled down version
of placebo's sleeping with ghosts/soulmates never die
off of a chillout sessions thing unaptly called mosquito bar.
still good though the original/live versions

are so much better.

// placebo @ myspace
// muffled but damn good

dry your eyes
soulmate dry your eyes
cause soulmates never die

hopefully they'll play more of this on the radio;
i'd die if they play 'wake me up when september ends'
one more time. it's meaningful and all but
september is innocent.

// 002 losing my religion

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream

// the r.e.m. version on youtube
stipes looks better w/o the hair and all but killer song anyhow.

// ryan star's cover version on youtube
truly amazing.

// 001 im a firestarter

so this is some sorta test run
of the gorgeous stuff we call music;
before all the links get working properly
on the first of the month. 0110.

// my tribute to music that we so readily
pick up and digg like crazy
and discard tomorrow.

*and after all these years. we are still overusing
that sameold pirelli image and industrial trashy look.
so much for simplicity and restraint.

PLACEBO // sleeping with ghosts

The sea's evaporating
Though it comes as no surprise
These clouds we're seeing
They're explosions in the sky
It seems it's written
But we can't read between the line

Hush
It's okay
Dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
Cause soulmates never die

This one world vision
Turns us into compromise
What good's religion
When it's each other we despise
Damn the government
Damn their killing
Damn their lies

Hush
It's okay
Dry your eyes
Dry your eyes
Soulmate dry your eyes
Dry your eyes
Soulmate dry your eyes
Cause soulmates never die

Soulmates never die
Never die
Soulmates never die
Never die...
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die

REM // Losing my religion

Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no Ive said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

ELECTRICO // runaway
Truly Julie, in another day
You know it really isn't far away
that I'm longing to be with you
You'll be waiting for another sun,
and that's when things begin to come undone
and there's nothing that i can do
There's a sense that's running in the air,
and that’s the time that you should never dare

Running away you can't pretend,
up to the door and back again with me
I know
Running away it drives me wild,
even someone who makes me mild like you
I know

There's a place where eveything is free
and everyone is just like you and me
like i've never seen before
But i would never ever wanna go,
to a place unless you told me so,
then you said that you wanted more
There's a sense that's running in the air
and that's the time that you should never dare

Running away you can't pretend,
up to the door and back again with me
I know
Running away it drives me wild,
even someone who makes me mild like you
I know

ALL AMERICAN REJECTS // straitjacket feeling
Back me down from backing up
Hold your breath now it's stacking up
Etched with marks, but I can deal
And you're the problem and you can't feel
Try this on, straightjacket feeling
so maybe I won't be alone
Take back now, my life you're stealing

Yesterday was hell,
But Today I'm fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you would be,
That face is tearing holes in me again

Trust you is just one defense
Off a list of others, you don't make sense
Beg me time and time again
to take you back now, but you can't win
Take back now, my life you're stealing

Yesterday was hell
But Today I'm fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you would be
That face is tearing holes in me again,

but today I'm fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all the things you put me through
I'm holding on by letting go of you

And when that memory slips away
There will be a better view from here
And only lonesome you remains
and just the thought of you I fear
it falls away

Yesterday was hell
But Today I'm fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you would be
That face is tearing holes in me again,

but today I'm fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all the things you put me through
I'm holding on by letting go of you

CITIZEN COPE // bullet and a target
Mr.Dali Lamas
Another sister's shootin' heroin tomorrow
Amputees in Freetown
Sierra Leone's
The church wasn't honest
The state put the youth in a harness
Creatin' hostility among us
Teacher said no college
Still the kid's gotta get a check with a couple commas
People wanna bomb us
More people gotta scatter and run from us
You can blame it on Zeus and Apollo and Adonis

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

I've been knowing her for years
I've been seeing her for years
She got dark, dark wavy hair
With a voice like she just don't care
She got a skirt with a halter top
She's got a dad who never gave a fuck
She drinks a beer with her mom 'til dawn
She got knocked up in a pickup truck
But she got engaged when she was nineteen
To this dude who was acting insane
Had a .45 that he always cleaned
Said one day one day one too many days
Now she ducked and she ran away
Never to be heard from, never to be seen
I check the cover of a magazine
I'm just wondering how, just wondering how

But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

Elo // Mr. Blue Sky

Warning! Todays forcast calls for blue skies.

Sun is shining in the sky
there aint a cloud in sight
it's stopped raining
Everybody's in the play
And don't you know it's a beautiful new day, Hey-hey
Running down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today, Hey- Hey

Mr.Blue Sky,
please tell us why,
you had to hide away for so long(So Long),
Where did we go wrong

Mr.Blue Sky,
please tell us why,
you had to hide away for so long(So Long),
Where did we go wrong

Hey, you, with the pretty face
welcome to the human race
A celebration
Mr. Blue Sky's up there waiting
And today is the day we've waited for, Oh-Oh

Mr.Blue Sky,
please tell us why,
you had to hide away for so long(So Long),
Where did we go wrong

Hey, there, Mr. Blue, we're so pleased to be with you,
Look around, see what you do, everybody smiles at you

Hey, there, Mr. Blue, we're so pleased to be with you,
Look around, see what you do, everybody smiles at you

Mr. Blue Sky, Mister Blueee Sky, Mr Blueee Skyyy, yi

Mr. Blue, you'll get it right,
but soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his hand is on your shoulder,
Nevermind, I'll remember you this,
I'll remember you this way

Mr.Blue Sky,
please tell us why,
you had to hide away for so long(So Long),
Where did we go wrong

Hey, there, Mr. Blue(Sky),
we're so pleased to be with you(sky),
Look around, see what you do(Blue),
everybody smiles at you

Please turn me over
